BARN SWALLOW / BEZDELĪGA
When Death knocks on old carpenter’s door, he tries to convince her to let him live a little longer
A short film made in January 2025 as a part of my Bachelor Thesis in Cinematography.
Credits: Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Writing
My first film with dialogue. For this story I was inspired by fairy tales in which a man makes a deal and tricks a higher being like the devil or Death. I wanted to explore the idea of Death being one of the characters similar to Orpheus (1950), The Seventh Seal (1957) and The Fall Of The House Of Usher (2023).

ABSENCE
A young poet, lost in his work, faces his own creation.
A silent abstract short film I made in January 2023 while on an exchange program in Zlin, Czech Republic.
Credits: Directing, Cinematography, Editing, Sound
The film explores the relationship between the art and the artist and is heavily inspired by Jean Cocteau's avant-garde film The Blood of a Poet (1932). It uses multiple mixed media techniques, which I often implement in my work: stop-motion, photomontage, cut-out animation.

PORTRAIT
Barton
A photo story about a shelter dog Barton and his carer
Barton is a cheerful auburn dog, who left Ukraine in May 2024 and was warmly welcomed at a local non-profit animal shelter “Labās Mājas”. Like any dog, he needs care and training. Shontal, one of the volunteers, who helps at the shelter, has been working with Barton for some time now and he has already shown signs of significant progress.
Barton’s biggest issue is that he has never learned how to communicate with his peers. He is friendly with people, but constantly barks at dogs at the shelter. On their walks Shontal must make sure that Barton doesn’t meet any other dogs, and they often hide in the bushes waiting for other dog walkers to pass (as seen in the picture). Bound together, they observe others from a distance.
